Tips for Choosing a Travel Agent
Posted by MTSRZ on 04/18/09 in Travel
In the age of the Internet, a travel agent isn’t as necessary as they once were — people can now research and book their vacations online, making it infinitely easier to do it themselves. However, travel agents are still often desired, if only to make things easier on the vacationer.
However, if you are considering using a travel agent you should make sure of a few certain things, otherwise the advantages are lost and you might as well do it yourself.
A good travel agent should:
- Be knowledgeable about a variety of vacation packages and destinations. You don’t want your travel agent to talk you into taking a vacation to the Caribbean simply because that’s all she really knows about, particularly if you are more interested in taking a train trip in Canada.
- Know how to get the best deals. A travel agent should be an expert in her field, which means knowing how and where to get the best deals. After all, that is why you are hiring her, right? To take care of the things you lack the knowledge to do yourself!
- Be able to make suggestions. If you have an idea of the sort of vacation you want to take, your travel agent ought to be able to make some suggestions based on your preferences. For instance, if you are the outdoorsy type, she might suggest a Banff ski vacation, whereas for an artsy person she might be more likely to suggest a vacation to Paris and a trip (or two or three) to the Louvre.
Your choice of a travel agent may well prove to be a very important one. After all, a good vacation makes memories that will last a lifetime.
