A Vacation for Relaxing

One of my favorite getaways is a little hot springs resort in the mountains just half an hour west of Denver, called the Indian Hot Springs.  It seems a little now like it is in its decline — the rooms in the main lodge haven’t been updated for 30+ years, for example — but in its heydey I guess it was a place for many important people to come.

Fancy rooms or not, this is one of my favorite places to go to relax, and in my opinion one of Denver’s best kept secrets.  The hot springs are just heavenly – you can choose from the caves (nude, separate baths for men and women), private indoor and outdoor jacuzzis that you can book for 1-hour blocks, and a large pool fed by the hot springs.  The resort also has a dining room, but I prefer to head a couple of blocks into town (Idaho Springs) to where there is a shopping district full of restaurants and coffee houses, gift shops, and other small-town entertainment.

Of course, my biggest reason for going to this place is the hot springs.  The hot water is perfect for relaxing, and since I don’t have the luxury of having a two person hot tub in my backyard, this place is the next best thing.  The environment is half of what is so relaxing about it — it’s not very relaxing to go to the fitness club and sit in their busy hot tub spa.  Luckily, Idaho Springs isn’t far from where I am located, so it’s not a big deal to go there to spend the night — or even the afternoon.
