Roller Coasters

Anticipation, fright, and nausea, that’s what we often feel as we chug up the slope of a roller coaster, it’s exhilarating and gives you a jolt of that fight or flight feeling, but we love them!  The bigger the better, the more panic-stricken it causes you to be, the higher rated it is.  We love it so much we have our pictures taken at peak fright and keep it, to refer back to that feeling.  However, have you ever wondered what makes a roller coaster work?

Well I was surprised to find that some roller coasters are using a magnetic flow meter to measure the cooling function for the hydraulic system that launches the participants into its heights.  It seems environmental engineers are starting to pay closer attention to the benefits of water flow measurement.  Not only does it keep that part of the ride calibrated, but it’s critical to maintain proper operation.

It’s really interesting how differently the roller coasters are put up from yester-year.  I am sure if the engineers from many years ago could see the industrial expertise that pours out of their amusement park inventions today, and the use of the mass flow meter, they would be very impressed.
