Golf Vacations with My Grandpa

My grandpa really used to love to golf.  Golfing and garding — those were his passions!  And work — he was quite the workaholic.  But, wait, I’m getting off-topic — this is supposed to be about his love for golf.

When I was growing up, every summer my grandparents would take me and my family to an upscale golf resort in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania.  There was plenty of other stuff to do at the resort, of course, so my sister and I and our cousins spent the days swimming, riding bikes, hiking, playing miniature golf, and just in general running rampant around the resort.

I never really thought back then about what my grandfather and uncle did.  (My mom didn’t golf, so I actually never figured out what she did all day.)  My grandpa and uncle were both pretty good at golf.  I don’t think either of them had ever attended a golf academy or considered a professional golf career, though both of them probably took private golf lessons at some point.  Compared to their chosen professions — lawyers, both of them — a golf career wouldn’t have fit with the rest of their lifestyles.  For some people, golf is just a hobby, no matter how good they are — or how easily they could find success in the golf industry!
