I could definitely come up with a lot of bad things to say about a few of my ex boyfriends. But I prefer to think of what I gain from things rather than what bad came out of them. One of the things that I gained from dating a variety of different people was a whole lot of knowledge about things I didn’t know before meeting them.

For example, one of my boyfriends was really into trucks and truck accessories. Before I dated him, I didn’t know that there were differences between types of truck tool boxes. I didn’t know that ladder racks could only go on certain kinds of trucks. I didn’t know that fender flares were for function and not just style. So I can’t say that I appreciate a lot about that relationship but at least I can say that it made me capable of holding my own in a conversation about trucks!

I think it’s important to try to take something away from every experience that you have in life. Everyone that you meet teaches you something. Everything that you do gives you a little bit of a broader perspective on the world around you. Yes, it’s easy to complain about the negative things that happen in relationships or to gripe about the problems arising from different experiences. But that’s not the kind of person that I want to be. What about you?
