Self-Consciousness of Adult Braces

You have been living a great professional life in a high power area of the country like Washington DC. Things are going smoothly until your Washington D C dentist suddenly informs you that you need to think seriously about getting Washington DC dental braces. Suddenly you feel like you’re eleven years old again and everyone is staring at you on the playground.

As adults, we will tell children that they shouldn’t be self-conscious about their braces. However, we suddenly find ourselves being quite hypocritical when it turns out that we need adult braces ourselves. We know that we shouldn’t be self-conscious about them but we can’t help but feel like everyone we know is now treating us like a kid in spite of the years we’ve spent building up a professional reputation.

Unless you’re in a position to take a year-long sabbatical and hide from the world, you’re going to just have to suck it up and deal with having the braces. You and your Washington D C cosmetic dentist both know it’s best for you in the long run. Try to remember the things that got you through being a teenager - like that everyone else is more concerned about their own appearance than yours anyway! Believe it or not, it’s still true!

Braces for adults? In the past, it was almost taboo. Putting braces on the teeth of an 18+ year old was once considered unnecessary, unpleasant, and even strange. Today, however, lots of adults are taking the plunge to straighten their teeth and improve their overbites. So how can an adult with braces survive the experience? Well, it all starts with recognizing what you are getting yourself into.
