Culinary Arts Careers

cookingWhen contemplating career training, I have seriously considered investing in a culinary arts degree. This would provide an overview on cooking, nutrition and food sanitation fundamentals in addition to learning various cooking techniques. After completing culinary training, I could begin my career in a restaurant or hone my skills in a desired culinary specialty and apprentice in a specialized area.Personally, I have always dreamed of becoming a professional baker but know I would need to attend a good cooking school. Rather than begin working in a restaurant or bakery, a culinary education would provide me with the education I need from experienced, real-world instructors and allow me the chance to receive a combination of textbook and hands-on training.

In order to pursue this goal, I need to be dedicated to the profession and have an open mind to all aspects of my culinary arts education. Additionally, while I know cooking has always been my passion, one of the ultimate goals of being a chef is to deliver superior service to guests. This means I have to have excellent listening skills and ensure the customer is my number one priority. In order to prepare for this, I listen to my family when I cook for them and ask if they are satisfied with their meal preparation. While I may not always get the orders right, I always try to make my “practice guests” happy.

I worked in an organic foods kitchen during my college years and many of the hired chefs had attended a culinary school. As you start looking at culinary programs you will probably nail down your area of interest.
