Kids Will Be Kids

I come from a very proud and religious family. My father is a prominent financier and my mother sits on the board of several large nonprofit organizations. We’ve always been active members of our church and we regularly donate money to a number of charities.
My little sister is a bit wild. I guess you could say she’s the black sheep of the family. It wasn’t always that way, but things started to deteriorate in high school. She had a lot of arguments with my parents about her clothes and her behavior. I think she started using drugs then. My parents hoped it was just teen rebellion that would settle down once she left home and started college in Georgia.
Her freshman year actually went pretty well. Then one night she ended up at the hospital from a drug overdose and my parents flew to Atlanta to see her. Well, they ended up taking her to a Florida drug treatment center. They didn’t want it to be here or near her school, and they also wanted it to provide Florida alcohol treatment, and also have Christian values. She was there for two months. We visited several times and had some long discussions with the staff, which were really helpful. I’m really glad she went to one of the better Florida drug treatment centers and got straightened out.
