Parade of Homes Has Great Ideas

Every year, we have something in the Denver area called the Parade of Homes. You get to walk through some show piece homes in a particular vicinity, or by a particular builder. Sometimes the homes are occupied and sometimes they’re not.
Of course you see all the lovely tile, home theatres and five-headed showers. But in addition, one of the things I saw over and over again were Fire Magic outside kitchens with outdoor sinks. Just over and over again, I see homes with large outdoor entertainment areas, most with lovely furniture to boot. Then there’s usually some sort of water feature like a pool, a pond or a fountain, too. It’s just like having an additional room to your house-though you can only use it May through October.
I guess it’s not that much different from the screened porch idea from back East, though here in Denver, we really don’t have a big mosquito problem so we don’t need to screen anything in. I think these outdoor kitchens are beginning to replace decks as a desirable feature to home buyers. Now I have to look over my house and see how I can make one of those work for me!

I’m seeing more and more of these on TV too. My favorite show is House Hunters, and lately it seems like they are always looking at really attractive outdoor spaces that include kitchens.

LOVE the Parade of Homes! I like to go just to look even though I’m not in the market for a new house. It’s just so fun to see what new things they are always doing.

Have you seen HGTV’s new “Top Ten” show? They did one on indoor/outdoor spaces. It was soooooo cool! A lot of them had these folding walls that opened up so the living room and the outdoor space became one big area.

Five-headed showers?? That sounds awesome! How about those remote control showers where you can turn them on from the comfort of your bed … they heat up to the exact temperature you want so all you have to do is stumble out of bed and your hot shower is waiting for you!

Outdoor sinks are SUCH a great idea. How often are you stuck trying to wash something off with the garden hose? It just doesn’t work very well!

Yeah, or you have those big barbecue platters that you have to carry inside and they’re dripping all through the kitchen and there isn’t enough room for them in the sink!

If you can figure out a way to add something like that onto your house, it’ll really increase your home’s value. I’m sure you’ll get your initial investment back and then some!
