Caring For Your Magnetic Car Sign

Magnetic car signs are the perfect solution when it comes to advertising. By placing your logo or ad on the side of your vehicle, you cheaply and easily reach hundreds of potential customers each day. Using a magnetic sign offers a few advantages over vinyl lettering or window decals, the most important one being permanency. If you don’t have a separate company truck or car, you might not want a permanent vinyl sticker on it. Magnetic car signs offer you the option of using the graphic whenever you want to.

In order to keep your magnetic sign looking as good as the day you bought it, here are a few tips to follow:

- Before you apply your magnetic sign, the surface should be clean and dry. After all, you wouldn’t want to lose your sign on the highway. If you’re putting your sign on a vehicle, wash and wax the metal first.

- Not all magnetic signs stick to all vehicles. Some cars aren’t constructed of steel. If your car has a fiberglass body, or plastic bumpers, or large areas where you may have applied bondo to fix a repair, the magnet won’t stick at all. Check the area first with a regular refrigerator magnet, if it sticks, you’re good to go.

- Magnets aren’t tight seals against the elements. Dirt and moisture can still creep in under the surface and you do need to remove the sign periodically to clean underneath. Use a mild detergent on both sides of the sign at least once a week, maybe more during harsh weather.

Always store your sign flat and at room temperature when not in use. If you don’t have room to store it flat, loosely roll it. Avoid rolling your sign when it’s been out in the cold. These signs are more pliable in warmer temperatures and rolling the sign cold could cause cracking.
